The Agricultural Produce Commission supports agricultural producers to establish Producers’ Committees to enable the provision of services to producers.

The APC legislation provides Western Australian horticultural producers with the ability to self fund and direct their industry to further the growth, prosperity and security of growers, producers and agricultural industries within Western Australia.

The Commission provides specialist governance and guidance to all APC Committees, encouraging them to work with their producers to identify initiatives and provide a true value service to growers and their industries.

The Agricultural Produce Commission Act 1988 (the Act) provides Western Australian agricultural producers with the legal framework to collect funds to provide for the development and security of their industry sector.

What agricultural produce is covered by the APC?

The abilities of the Act are available to horticultural and agricultural industries as may be prescribed- except an industry that concerns livestock enterprises generally conducted on land under a pastoral lease. Horticultural industries can include; wine, fruit, vegetables, juices, nuts, turf and flowers.

Some of the commodities which have established APC Producers' Committees are; vegetables (excluding mushrooms) pome, citrus and stone fruits, pork, poultry and bee keeping.

The Commission

  • Work with agricultural industries to identify whether their industry could benefit from an APC Producers' Committee

  • Establish Producers' Committee via work with the industry and a polling process

Committees

 

APC Producers’ Committees bring producers together as a united body, involved in more than just the production of a commodity, it allows them to identify and focus on areas of particular interest or need, and to provide services aimed at improving the prosperity and development of their businesses.

The Committee, made up of producers, is the voice of all producers – if you are a Fee for Service paying producer then you have a say in what your Committee does.

The Committee brings all producers together to work towards a unified industry and to develop a strategic plan which can take the industry forward.

Be involved and contact your chairman if you feel there is something that needs to be done, if you have an idea that can help the industry or if you would like to take the opportunity to become involved.
